| 100.1 | Sounds strange... | MUNTRA::SCHIMMEL | The Answer Is 42 | Thu Apr 18 1991 07:44 | 14 |
|  | Hi Gottfried,
I've been doing some FTSIE testing at a SIEMENS site concurrently with a
collegue testing TCP/IP connections to the same host a few years ago without
any problems on either side. The SIEMENS was connected to the ETHER thru a
9632 adaptor (what adaptor is your customer using?). I'm rather sure they had
only *one* adaptor...
If your customer has an adaptor not working with FTSIE, a connection thru
a modem eliminator using PSI might be a possible solution. But this requires
the SIEMENS to have a PDN (see FTSIE-SPD).
 regards
  Helmut

| | I think the adaptor was an 9632, but I shall recheck with Siemens Crew
    at the customer site.
    I did not believe the story as well, but got the same info from an
    other customer too, they operate 2 adaptors to accomodate both protocol
    stacks. For my opinion there are the following explanations:

    - Siemens lies in order to keep FTSIE out
    - Siemens lies in order to increase 9632 sales
    - There is a problem with the TCP/IP S/W.
      So far as I was told, this is a special facility to hook (Siemens)
      PC's to the mainframe.

    I'll try to find out.

    reg.

| 100.3 | Today 2 controllers - in future only 1 | MUDIS3::RBOEDEKER |  | Thu May 02 1991 15:54 | 14 |
|  |     Hi,

    the story is quite simple! The current version of the ethernet
    controller 9632 can only deal with one protocol (TCP/IP or OSI) (like
    the very ealy DEC controllers), so that you need two contollers, if you
    are running the two stacks.

    Siemens will deliver a new version within the next months that can deal
    with OSI and TCP/IP.

    Regards ,

    Ralf

| 100.4 | Finally the solution, but... | ATZ02::GOOFY | data+voice+image=network | Fri May 03 1991 12:40 | 12 |
|  |     Thank You Ralf,

    That clarifies the situation.

    What will the new version look like :

    An advaced 9632 or an enhancemnet to D(B)CAM ?

    best reg.
