Packaged Application Software Solution Description (PASSD)

                             VAX DECsicon, Release V.2.0

                       Packaged Application Software Solution

                                       (PASS)

          1 DESCRIPTION

VAX DECsicon is a Packaged Application Software Solution (PASS)
offering a call interface with a communication path to external
equipment using a serial line and the RK512 protocol (S5 Re-
lated) layered on top of the 3964 (3964R) procedures. Commonly
used external equipment are Siemens SIMATIC S5 series PLC's and
          TELEPERM M controllers.

To achieve high data througput and low CPU load, the external
equipment is connected to a serial line of a KXJ11-CA single
board computer which in turn is used as an intelligent I/O
preprocessor (slave) of the MicroVAX host. Physically the KXJ11-
CA is plugged into the MicroVAX Q-Bus.

          1.1 Features

          VAX DECsicon provides:

o Serial lines with the following configuration parameters:

             o Supported baudrates: 150, 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600
             o One startbit
             o Eight databits
             o Two stopbits
             o Even parity

o A subroutine library with four routines for the programmer to
support the application development. The calls are:

o KXJ$ASSIGN to connect to one serial line of a KXJ11-CA.
o KXJ$IO to initiate various I/O functions and complete
                asynchronously.
o KXJ$IOW to initiate various I/O functions and complete
                synchronously.
o KXJ$DEASSIGN to disconnect from one KXJ11-CA serial line.

o A test utility to facilitate rapid prototyping of DECsicon
applications. Using the utility it is possible to connect to
a serial line, change characteristics of the line, write data
to and read data from the line and disconnect again from the
             line.

o An example of an application written in VAX/VMS FORTRAN.

o Definition files for FORTRAN, PASCAL and C

The following table gives the QIO function types compared with
          the corresponding SIEMENS Telegram type.
