| | I was told that the R30 is an old machine , and that the required card
    could be the du04 .
however, what i couldnt confirm is what protocol does a du04 speaks
    3964r, 512 above ?
if so , i could use decsicon or vaxdust.

can anyone confirm me that point?

They dont require any sinchonous comm, however they would like to know
    if
any possible connection via net is possible, for instance attaching to
    H1 via K100.
(ks100), then use either vsh1 or decosap (if AP is possible in R30)
    is this possible?
    regards, Luis

There are some ways to connect a VMS System to the Siemens
SICOMP M. Beside the 3964R you can also communicate to the SICOMP M
    via ISO protocols.

The SICOMP R30 does not support ISO-Protocols and does not support a
LAN connection. A solution may be a SICOMP M System as gateway between
a VMS-System and the SICOMP R30. Then the communication between the
SICOMP M and SICOMP R is SINEC-M (a Siemens prop. Protocol).

The DU04 is the SICOMP M controller running the 3964R protocol. On the
R30 the controller is called "3965R". (On the physical level it is a
    X.20bis and X.21bis interface with a V24 connector).

For ISO comm. use the OSI Transport VOTS and if you havea point to point
    connection, you also need PSI.

On top of VOTS you can use FTSIE for filetransfer and DEComni/DECosap
    for task-to-task communication.

    Now to the Siemens side:

    LAN

On the SICOMP M you can use the level 4 controller KS100 and on top the
Siemens products for filetransfer "AKS-T" with DS/PS
(directory service/project service) and SNFT (SINEC-Filetransfer). For
the task-to-task comm. you need IOSY-H1.

If you have the level 2 LAN controller DU03, than you need the
following Siemens Products: SINEC-M (the communication system of the
Sicomp) SNISO (the ISO Transport-System) SNVS-Interface and AKS-T. With
these products, you are ready for level 4 and you can run SNFT
(filetransfer) or IOSY-H1 for Task-to-Task com.

    Point-to-point

Take the X.25 Interface DU06B and on top SINEC-M and SNISO to provide a
level 4 ISO communication. SNFT and IOSY-H1 are the products for
filetransfer and task-to-task comm.. As usual the VMS is DCE and the
    SICOMP is DTE.

An easy way to get files from a SICOMP M / SICOMP R is the good (!) old
(!) KERMIT. But be careful: Kermit on a SICOMP M/R is not (!) a simple
Kermit. You have to get it from Siemens with the extensions thes need
for their terminal-protocol. On the SICOMP R/M they also need a special
interface called PROMEA X rep. MX.

    I hope this helps !

    Ralf

PS: Keep in mind that FTSIE is not supported in an SICOMP environment.
(but it works ... depending on the Release of the SICOMP SW ...)

| | Together with SIEMENS Dortmund we made a filetransfere for VEW Dortmund
    between a SICOMP R30 and a VAX 6410:

    +--------+ +--------+ +----------+
    | SICOMP | | SICOMP | | VOTS 2.0 |
    |   R30  |<-- SINEC M ? -->| M26    |<-- SINEC H1 -->| VAX 6410 |
    +--------+ +--------+ +----------+
We sold our local (Cologne) tool SINCH1/VMS to SIEMENS including
one day consulting. SIEMENS developed some software on the R30,
on the M26 and on the VAX. The transmissionrate is 30 KByte/s for
filetransfer ! AS far as i remember, the transfer is initiated from
    the VAX.
SIEMENS Dortmund/Essen is able to offer the software to other customers.
The people of SIEMENS, which developed the software are familiar
with SICOMP R, SICOMP M and VAX.

May be, that can give you some new ideas
    Wolfgang
