90.0. "parallel postprocessing" by FRUST::HAGEMANN () Wed Jan 09 1991 16:36

       Hi,
Ive got the following problem to solve, if it is solveable
       in any case.
       Her the scenario:

       VAX/VMS V5.3 and FTSIE V1.4b.
I do have not the indepth understaning of FTSIE internals
but would like to describe the following problem.

The problem relates to the postprocessing feature.
Imagine the system receives more than one request at the
same time, then, if the system load isn't very high, we
got more than one FTSIE$COMMAND.COM postprocessing files
       written for execution.
And now it happens, that the file with the highest version
number is executed as many times as request were received
at the same time. So there is no relation, for example in
form of an PID appendix to the FTSIE$COMMAND.COM file as
an pointer to the right postprocessing file.
If the system load in the other hand is very high, there will be
an time delay high enough to execute each postprocessing
file in the right sequence as the requests were comming
       in.
Has anybody seen this before and has got an idea ???

       Thanks for help in advance
       regards,
       Pietro

Hi Pietro,

you're completely rigth!

We were aware of that problem, but it didn't occur and we couldn't even
"produce" it on the test equipment. Fortunately, the fix for it is already
in our latest sources (fyi: using system time and PID for uniqueness)!

So please allow us about 1 - 2 weeks for new kit build and regression testing.
You should then find the kit FTSIE014C.A on MUNLEG::FTSIE$PUBLIC:.

PS. to Re.1:

Does the problem also occur when the OUTGOING JOB_LIMIT (MAXOSP) equals 1 ?
90.3MAXISP,MAXOSP worksFRUST::HAGEMANNThu Jan 10 1991 11:2410
The customer tested the behaviour after changing the values of the
    parameters 'MAXISP,MAXOSP' to 1.
Now the problem stated in .0 doesn't occur any longer.
But this is only an interims workaround and the customer is
looking forward to get the 1.4C revision.
So hopefully we will see this version released in the next few weeks.
Thanks for help and have a good time.

    regards
    Pietro
