82.0. "SINIX and DEC" by LUX01::RECHT (Paddy) Fri Nov 16 1990 09:50

    Hello,

    presently I'm looking for a VT200 emulator to run on a SINIX machine.

    The Siemens equipment is an MX300 type machine with 97801 and 97808
    type terminals attached to it. The purpose of the VT200 emulation is to
    provide the SINIX users with a means to communicate into the DEC world
    and simultaneously allow these people to use compose characters like
       etc.

    The VT100 emulation included in Telnet operations doesn't offer this
    feature (but in Luxembourg people use English, French, German, ...) so
    these compose characters are very important.

    Does this help you to help me ?

    Thanks and regards, Patrick

82.1Can You settle with a workaround ?VNABRW::SCHNEIDER_Gbeing nuts is neatTue Nov 27 1990 12:1723
    Patrick,

    as in many other cases...

    It will be very complicated to design the desired functionalities.
    You will not be done with simply having the conversions for special
    characters implemented, to really emulate an end device one must also
    provide all the special functions found in a rather complex device like
    the VT2xx.
    Further, an appropriate method of communication must be devised, Your
    VAX most likely will offer LAT services and thus a LAT client would
    have to be implemented on the SINIX system.
    If You go for TELNET -which You could implement on Your VAX using the
    VMS/Unix connection- You must restrict to TELNET funcrionality, which
    basically means "line oriented" operation.
    A possible workaround would be to use the new terminal servers, which
    would connect You to SINIX via TELNET and to VMS via LAT.

    reg.

82.2EMVT from Conware ?MUDIS3::RBOEDEKERTue Dec 18 1990 11:5011

    Hi Patrick,

    Conware offers a product called EMVT, that is a VTemulation for a
    SINIX 97801 Terminal. I'll get a technical description of it within the
    next days. Then I can see if it solves your problem.

    If you want to contact Conware, here is the phone: x721-40907-0

82.3EMVT from ConwareMUDIS3::RBOEDEKERFri Jan 11 1991 14:2926

    Today I've got the information from Conware.

    EMVT is a VT200 terminal emulation for SINIX (SINIX Version 5.2 for
    MX300 or MX500 and Version 2.1 for PC-MX2). It can be used with the
    async. interface of the PC or communication REMOS (for example TCP/IP
    rlogin or telnet). There is also a hardcopy function.

    Not supported are:

    	-- 132 character /line
    	-- double height and double broad characters
    	-- G2 and G3 cahracter sets
    	-- 8-Bit character set
    	-- programmable function keys (UKD)

    The keyboard layouts from the VT200 and the 97801 are described within
    the documentation and the user can define the keymapping between the
    two keyboards.

    Even the product does not support our 8-Bit character set you should be
    able to solve your problem with it.

    Regards, Ralf
