| As written in the STD, VSH1 supports the Simatic S5-115U/135U/150U PLCs
connected in a SINEC-H1 LAN via CP535 interface.
To connect other type of Siemens equipment, please check if they can AP.
If yes, you can talk to them via DECosap.

The CP286 is a communication processor for MMC216 which handles layer 1
and layer 2 of the comm. protocol. Their is no official software from Siemens
that supports the higher levels of the comm.protocol on the CP286.
There is one Software-Product called COMNET for the CP286 for the higher
protocol-levels, but this software is developed with the special scope for the
paper industry.
The CP535 is the good (?) old communication processor for the SIMATIC S5 and
MMC216. It handles layer 1 to layer 4. Today the CP535 can be upgraded to
CP143 to support layer 1 to layer 7 of the AP-protocol. But, as far as I know,
the CP143 is not supported by MMC216 (only by SIMATIC). The AP-protocol is
the strategic protocol (beside MMS) that is supported by SIEMENS.
Digital now has DECosap/DEComni (as a Digital PRODUCT !) to support this
protocol on several devices -- BUT -- there is no support for a comm.
processor for MMC.
The reason here is that the AP-protocol has to be done on the MMC216 in
software. I am not sure if SIEMENS has an AP-protocol on
the MMC216. Be careful when you talk to a Siemens guy about this subject
because within SIEMENS some guys say AP-protocol when they think of CP535
with the interface that we can serve with VSH1.
The official name "AP-protocol" identifies the Protocol layers 5 to 7. A
question you can ask to test the understanding of AP-protocol of your
counterpart is: "What kind of functions are supported by the AP-
implementation, only the so called not open technological functions
(that is SERIAL TRANSFER Service and TIME Service) or also the so called
open technological functions like VARIABLE ACCESS Service and DOMAIN
MANAGEMENT." If your counterpart has no idea about this, be sure you can
not expect "real" AP functionality.
And even if Siemens can support the AP-protocol on MMC216 it is not officially
supported by DECosap (but it may work). (The software-implementation of
the "AP not open technological funtions" for the CP535 on the SIMATIC
-- called SINEC-AV -- is not supported but it works.)
By the way, if your customer demands fiber-optic, this is independant
from the decision for the CP. You can connect the CPxxx to SINEC-FO
(fiber optic). Siemens delivers a transciever to SINEC-FO that is
plug-compatible to a standard ethernet transceiver.
Informations concerning DECosap: there is a notes-conference on
CESARE::DECOSAP
I hope this helps
