Note 15.0 FTSIE as a "package" 2 replies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We (the advisory group at the IGK branch office) are thinking of making up an
FTSIE "packaged" offering ie. software, consultancy and training bundled
together.

1. Installation and documentation
As quoted in the standard price list for FTSIE, VOTS and PSI (if necessary).

2. Consultancy
During the past 6 months we've found that support is needed over and above
the normal installation. Often this support has been given free of charge
and I've worked out that it's approx. 3 man days per. site before FTSIE is
   actually up and running.

3. Training
We envisage a one day course with the following goals:

   3.1 Objectives
       - FTSIE overview (Ethernet and X25 versions)
       - Literature overview with order nos.
       - FTSIE installation guide lines ie. the order of installing the
products, running an IVP, what information is required about the local
and remote systems, accounts and default directories created etc.
       - FT-BS2000 installation guide lines
       - FTSIE commands eg. START, TERMINATE, RESET, SET, COPY, SHOW etc.
       - Setting FTSIE parameters about the host, partners etc.
       - Practical examples of sending or fetching files (synchronous and
         asynchronous) in DCL
       - Practical examples of starting remote command procedures written in
BS2000 command language (although Digital tends to use the term JCL -
Siemens themselves do not use this terminology)

   3.2 Non-objectives
       - Future FTSIE development plans
       - Setting OSI (OSICP) and PSI parameters
       - Trouble-shooting tips (tricks of the trade)
       - Tracing at the different levels and interpreting the traces

This is only a draft and I would be interested in receiving feed-back from FTSIE
specialists everywhere - please feel free to attach your comments to this topic.

This is basically a good idea.

    i n s i d e DEC ???
Are there any plans whatsoever to adress this needs?

Yes, we are aware of these need. The basic problem is, that there
is almost no OSI-training available; this is an issue I cannot solve.

But there will be a TECforum this year on VAX FTSIE with basicly
all the information Mitchell suggested in Note 15.0.
