Hi.  I have a customer who said that ZAP has a problem with SMP VAX's.  He
couldn't elaborate, but mentioned that somebody in support confirmed this.
Can somebody explain to me what the problem is and whether or not it is fixed
in ZAP 5.x?

There has never been a report of ZAP having problems with SMP.  There is no known
problem with ANY version of ZAP running with SMP.
