122.0. "pathworks and zap" by OTOOA::ESKICIOGLU (Never smile at a crocodile) Thu Nov 05 1992 08:45

How does ZAP treat PC users integrated with PATHWORKS ?

I have installed ZAP at a couple of customer sites before and both
myself and the customers were impressed with its capabilities. It does
what it is advertised to do and the various options for time slots
    process exclusions are great.

Now, my new site is inquiring about ZAP, but I don't know how ZAP will
behave in their environment. They don't have any users on the server.
All of their 30 users are pathworks clients. Will they get the same
functionality from ZAP or will ZAP start zapping busy pc users thinking
    that they are idle ?

Also, can ZAP be used to free DECserver ports from inactive
connections. In this case the concern is not VMS resources or
VMS security, they are just trying to economize the usage of their
    very precious 8 ports.

    Thanks a bunch

    Lale

122.1ZAP and Pathworks should have no problemsZAPDEV::MACONIThe Doctor is InFri Nov 06 1992 08:4913
We utilize Pathworks and Xcursion at our site and have had no problems
with ZAP killing off non-idle processes. We do not run ZAP on our dedicated
Pathworks server, but since there are no users logging into that system, we do
not need to.

ZAP should have no problem in handling your Pathworks users as long as
it is set up correctly. One thing to remember is that ZAP will not be able to
know that multiple connections from the same PC are the same user and will
disconnect each one independently. Other than that, there is very little
difference for ZAP if the remote system is a PC, VAX or RISC system.
