108.0. "Known problems with ZAP V4.2 with VMS V5.5 ???" by SOLVIT::EARLY (Bob Early, Digital Services) Wed Mar 18 1992 11:06

    Has ZAP V4.2 been tested on VMS 5.5 ?

    ZAP V4.2 fails to log out processes under VMS V5.5

    I just received a call fro one of our ZAP customers who is running
    V4.2 of ZAP. He upgraded his system to V5.5 over the weekend and
    says that ZAP now doesn't terminate any processes. The ZAP logicals
    appear normal, and the log file says that the processes are being
    terminated, but they are still there.

    Are there any problems with ZAP V4.2 under VMS V5.5 ?

108.1ZAP V4.2 and VMS V5.5 are okZAPDEV::MACONIThe Doctor is InThu Mar 19 1992 17:4216
	There is no reason that I know of that will prevent ZAP V4.2 from
	working on VMS V5.5. I have just installed ZAP V4.2 on a VMS V5.5
	system and it was able to successfully kill a 'lat' process. This
	was an extremely limited test, but I wanted to get back to you with
	some type of result.

	If there are general problems, then perhaps re-installing ZAP V4.2
	on the VMS V5.5 system may solve them. This would be the first thing
	that I would do to resolve the problem until V5.0 is released.

	If that does not solve the problem for the customer, please contact
	me so that I can investigate this better.

108.3Upgrade to V5.0ZAPDEV::MACONIThe Doctor is InTue Apr 07 1992 19:273
Please upgrade to Version 5.0 of ZAP to allow the use of the built in
diagnostics. If the upgrade does not solve the problem, then the diagnostics
will be able to tell us why.
108.4Does V5 solve lost accounting information ?SOLVIT::EARLYBob Early, Digital ServicesFri Apr 17 1992 12:1417
Subj:	Q: Does v5 solve the problem with Accounting Information being lost ?

    I got a salesperson who has a customer that wants to upgrade to V5,
    but only if it solve the problem (bug? feature?) where when a user
    gets zapped, the accounting file is also lost ?

    The user needs the accounting information to bill the customer,
    when the process gets zapped.

    Will V5 leave these files intact ?

108.5ZAP does not stop accounting records being writtenZAPDEV::MACONIThe Doctor is InFri Apr 17 1992 14:4616
	The current version of ZAP (V5.0) terminates processes via the same
method as prior versions of ZAP, the $DELPRC system service. This is the
equivalent of the $ STOP/ID= DCL command.

	There is no reason that an accounting record should not be written,
unless the process has been created with the noaccounting attribute. Normal
processes do not have this attribute, but detached jobs may be created this
way with privileges.

	I have tested ZAP V5.0 under VMS V5.4-3 and V5.5 and have not encountered
the problem described (missing accounting entries). What version of VMS/ZAP
are they currently running. Also, is PROCESS accounting turned on for that
system ($ Show Acc)?
