40.0. "Hacked ZAP wanted..." by LESLIE::LESLIE (Andy `{o}^{o}' Leslie) Thu Oct 29 1987 15:28

    I have a problem that the ZAP author may be able to help with.
    Basically, I want a utility to check that ALL the processes have
    been idle for some specified time then do a user-specified action,
    run an image, command file, whatever.

    My justification for this is I want some "thing" to run WSLOCK on
    my workstation if I leave it unattended for a given period of time.

    Is this possible with a hacked ZAP?

40.1Sorry, no hacks...NRADM3::MACONIThe DoctorThu Nov 05 1987 14:4315
    ZAP monitors an entire system, but tracks each "owner" independently.
    There is no mechanism available to track a group of processes and
    then perform some specified action when they are all idle for a
    specified period of time.

    ZAP does not have the capability to execute procedures or programs
    when it notices an idle user. However, it may be possible for it
    to create a detached process (with a pre-created input file) to
    perform some task.

    Currently, there is some investigation ongoing into locking or
    detaching processes which become idle. It is hard to say at this
    time what the results of that investigation may be...
