39.0. "ZAP versus SPIRIT, using ALL-IN-1!!" by VANISH::KINGHORN (ian j kinghorn) Thu Oct 22 1987 13:32
We have been using the "idle process killer" SPIRIT for some time
now, and have experienced some problems. Most noticeable that SPIRIT
seems to ignore processes in ALL-IN-1. Something to do with the
message handling characteristics of ALL-IN-1, the result it does
work to trap and handle the message.
ZAP seems to offer a level of flexibility beyond that of SPIRIT.
How could we use ZAP to handle ALL-IN-1?
I guess I'm looking for comparisons ZAP versus SPIRIT, should
I change over to using ZAP? Will it handle the ALL-IN-1 environment,
especially the fact that some work is done in the sub-process? What
should I look out for?
I've read the V3.6 documentation, and I am impressed, answers
to the specific questions would help me decide if this *IS* the
product for me.
All help and comments gratefully recieved
Regards,
Ian

Hi,
We in the MAA who are running ALL-IN-1 are using ZAP with no
problems. We have modififed it to give a 30 minute idle period
before logging out a user. Also ZAP maintainance runs once a day
in the wee hours of the AM.
Try it you'll like it.
