542.0. "Cassette/CD with pitch control" by QUICHE::NEALE (Who can, do - who can't, consult) Tue Sep 17 1996 13:52

A neighbour has asked if I know of any cassette players and/or CD players with a
pitch control.

I do not know of any - do any notes readers here know of anything like this?

I suspect that any pitch control is likely to be no more than few per cent, and
she is probably looking for more than that. She is a ballet teacher, and it did
not occur to me until after our conversation that she may well be thinking that
she could significantly slow/speed up tempos for dance accompaniment. I am not
sure that a non-technical ballet teacher would necessarily understand the link
between speed change and pitch change, which would make any significant speed
change unacceptable. Still, I promised that I would follow it up.

Most professional CD players come with pitch control - though I know of
no "normal" Hi-Fi ones. As for CD players, most of the higher end Nak's
came with pitch control - but Nakamichie (?sp) have sadly moved out of
    Hi-Fi and into computer addons.

    Rik - unhelpfully.

Sony make some double cassette decks with pitch control on the 'play'
    side of the machine.
Thier last set of models had it, and I believe it is true of the latest
ones. Check with a Sony Centre.

I don't know of any other brands that have this facility, nor any
    single cassette deck.

    Hope this helps.

Denon do a CD with +- 8% pitch control and it's meant exactly for
matching BPM to the gym. I don't know the model number - it may even
have been a mini system - but it's definitely Denon.

Talking on CD players with pitch control, I believe Ariston do one and
is available through Richer Sounds in the UK
