    I don't !

I'm still recovering from the price of the new remote control for their
    A/V 51 system - 250 quid !!!!

    Dave,

Too slow, I'm afraid. Already checked the page and as usual, it has not
been modified. I do, however, have more info.....

The phono stage is still in development and is ultimately designed to
compliment the new AV control amp that has no such stage.

The monoblock is likewise aimed at the AV market.

    Dave.

My source hadn't heard of the monoblock amp (and said that Linn were
against such thinks for technical/price reasons - ie it would cost more
to produce a monoblock to no audio advantage) he did however say that a
phone stage for use with the AV system would be a distinct possibility.
He also said that the AV amp was on a par with the Kairn for sound
    quality.

    Rik

He also has a Karik II (+ briliant) for sale at 900GBP if anyone is
    interested then mail me.

I'm not convinced by Linn at all.

They made a great turntable in the LP12 -- period. Since then, _I_
think they lost their integrity. OK, the AXIS was pretty good too.
The Isobariks had a lot going for them. But, I think they relied
on product loyalty too much, and cut corners on their own integrity.

Linn have gone down the Bang and Olufson route to profitability.

    Fur coat -- no knickers.

    Sincerely,

    John

    John,
Who do you think have yet to loose their integrity ? Rega, Naim ?

    John,

It would be foolhardy for any audio company to rely on customer loyalty
    - especially in this price range. I, like many other, prefer to listen
to their kit against other manufacturers, before forking out my
hard-earned cash. So far, I haven't regretted selling my Naim system
and heading down the Linn route.

However.... I must say that I have only heard one demo of the Linn AV
system that has made it sound any good, and that was by Graham's HiFi a
couple of weeks ago. Even Linn couldn't demo it properly at the Bristol
HiFi Show back in Febrary. Even at the Graham's demo, the AV5140 (main
AV speakers) did not measure up to what I would expect.

The point I am (rather badly) trying to make is this: Demos of
equipment from one manufacturer will require a different mindset to
equipment from another. Linn and Naim equipment, for example, cannot be
demonstrated in the same light as their overall aim is different. A good
dealer will point this out and also point out that expensive doesn't
necessarily equate to best and cheap to worst.

539.9Why Linn? Buy a high quality UK productVYGER::HANCOCKMFri Nov 15 1996 11:054
Have a listen to the sugden Symetris monoblocks and an A51 before you
spend a fortune on linn monoblocks. You'll soon change your mind about
buying Linn. If you prefer a valve type sound try a pair of their
    monoblocks.
