530.0. "Static and dirt on vinyl? Help" by CHEFS::GERRYT () Wed Feb 14 1996 15:49

Has anyone any hints on trying to remove static and surface noise from
    Vinyl records?

I have some old records that I recently got out for nostalgia's sake,
and was abhored by the surface noise!
I wiped them with a so called anti-static wipe...no effect.
I washed them under a cold tap and played them wet...and they sounded
    superb...until they dried out again!

How can the improved results be sustained, or achieved another way?

Tim,

Try your local hi-fi shop - they may have a cleaning machine or they may well
know someone who can help.

Alternatively look in the back of HiFi News and Record Reviews - they
occasionally have adverts from companies that clean record - usual cost about
1.50

There used to be a 'spray on goo' that solidified on the vinyl, then
could be peeled off. Not sure if its still available though.
