523.0. "VIDEO and AMP Speaker trouble" by CHEFS::MADGEJ () Tue Jul 18 1995 14:27

    Hello all,

I'm a little stuck with a problem which I think stems from my AMP, and
wondered if anyone could give me some advice.

I have just bought a Sony SLV-E80 video recorder and plugged it
into my NAD 3030 AMP to give stereo sound from my music video's etc.

The only problem is when I do this, I only get sound from the right
hand speaker, the other speaker produces a very very faint signal.

Is it something to do with how I've wired it up?
I have a stereo TV, but my wiring is straight from the video into the
AMP socket? What am I doing wrong. When I play the CD player through
the amp the music plays fine?

Does anybody recall seeing the problem before, or is it maybe time to
    replace the amp?

Many thanks for any help you can give,

    Jon

I would expect that the problem lies in the Video recorder (or
connectors) and the Amp is OK on other inputs and they tend to share
input stages so the problem would occure for CD + TV + LP etc. The very
faint sound you are hearing is probably crosstalk.

    Video L ----- Amp L ----- LHS Speaker
          R ----- R ----- RHS Speaker (No sound)

If the Video R channel is dead they you will hear no (V.little) sound
in the RHS Speaker. Swap the leads from the Video to Amp so that the
Video L goes to Amp R and visa versa. I would expect that problem will
now "move" to the LHS speaker. Thus you have a problem with the Video R
    channel (or its lead).

Video *R* ----- Amp L ----- LHS Speaker (No sound)
           L ----- R ----- RHS Speaker

    Hope this helps,

    	Rik

The left and right hand channels are not completely separated within
the amp so you get very low level interference between the channels. So
if the LHS channel has no input then you can hear the RHS channel at
about -60-70db (or as you say very very quiet)

Which of the Amp inputs are you using? I use the tuner input (I think,
from fading memory...) on my NAD, although I have an extremely vague
memory of it not working when using one of the other inputs...

Another thought....I take the output from the video via specific 'audio
out' connectors...there are also some 'audio in' connections, I
once got these confused and experienced a problem similar to the one
    you describe.

sorry - just some vague ramblings...
