519.0. "Playing damaged cds (again)" by COMICS::GLEDHILL () Mon May 01 1995 11:19

I assume that if a CD is scratched on the top (ie some silver is missing so that
you can see thru it) these is nothing that can be done, the info is lost, there
is nothing I can spray on etc. is this correct...

If so what machines are more likely to be able to cope with such damaged
cds (my cheap/nasty ones dont like it, jump and make nasty(ier) sounds).

Dave,

That CD is ruined, but I suppose you could try putting some silver foil over
the hole in the (probably) vain hope of getting some silence rather than nasty
noises. I can't think that a more expensive player would handle it any better
but you could ask someone (not me) with a Karik to try it out ...

Thanks for that (bad news) dave.

They are only scratched a little bit so thought that a better player might
be able to cope. What is the karic, and what other ones are considered better
at tracking etc.

Thanks.

    The Karik is a CD player from Linn. I'm not sure how good it is at
    tracking but my one has never had a problem reading a CD - but having
    said that all my CDs are in mint condition.
