511.0. "Philips cd-951 review ?" by WARS::JERZYNSKI (Zygmunt JERZYNSKI) Tue Feb 21 1995 08:31

    Has anybody heard/seen the Philips CD 951 ?
        What are the reviews ?

        Please comment.

    BTW: It's a Bitstream DAC7.
         What's a DAC7 ?

Whats DAC 7 ?

DAC 7 is Philips' best Bitstream chip, I believe that they are selected from
the normal production as being closest to spec.

    I've got a Marantz 72 but can't really give you a 'review' since it's
    got a Trichord clock in it and I run it with a DAC-in-the-box. I think
    it sounds great, but what's 'great' ? I can say though that it's old
    technology now since it uses the CDM4 Philips transport and newer
    players use the CDM12. You can still get 72's cheap from end of line
    suppliers and it's got to be a better bet than a Philips 9 whatever.
    Even a Marantz 52 would be a better bet.
511.4Digital out ?; Trichord ?WARS::JERZYNSKIZygmunt JERZYNSKIMon Mar 27 1995 18:424
    It does have a digital output, right ?
    What is a Trichord clock ?

    The 72 has coax and optical digital outputs. I'm not sure about the 52
    but it's got at least one. A Trichord clock is an anti-jitter
    mechanism. See ELESYS::AUDIO 2220.18 onwards
511.6Philips CD-951 - what transport ?WARS::JERZYNSKIZygmunt JERZYNSKIWed Mar 29 1995 10:256
    Yet another question on the Philips CD-951:

    Does anybody know what type of transport is used ?

    Regards,
