496.1 | My vote : go for the Cirkus | COMICS::FLANDERSD | I remember the look in your eye | Tue Oct 11 1994 21:02 | 16 |

When the Cirkus upgrade was first annouced, I had a demo of the difference it
made - and it was quite significant ! The dealer was also convinced that this
was as good as (if not better than) a Lingo, and at half the price it's much
better value for money.
Don't forget that the Cirkus replaces almost all the moving/wearable parts.
However, try and get a comparative dem and make up your own mind.
I'm not familiar with the Basic Plus or the Akito, if you go for the Cirkus you
might be able to find a 2nd hand Ittock (LVII or LVIII) for the difference -
again ask your dealer.

| Thank you for you suggestion. I'll be heading down to the local dealer
today to check out the upgrades. The Cirkus does sound like the best
value for the money. Who knows, if they give me a good deal, maybe
I'll buy both the Cirkus and the Lingo!
As for the CD gear, I must admit it tempts me...

496.4 | Each upgrade improves the sound but in their own way | KERNEL::LEIGHA | Andrew Leigh, UK CSC Basingstoke | Thu Oct 20 1994 22:10 | 13 |
| The Lingo/Cirkus option will do different things to the sound than changing the
arm. The basik+ arm is a little rough compared to the Akito but found it was
only the Ekos which gave a significant improvement (the Ittok LVIII not being
around any more). The Ekos/Ittock option also allows you to explore world of
moving-coil cartridges.
The Lingo/Cirkus option improves the timing and musicality of the turntable
making the music much more enjoyable. I suggest going to a dem. and listen for
yourself - I found them all worthwile upgrades!
I would not classify a Karik as an upgrade to and LP12.

Didn't you see my smiley Andy ?
You'd neen a Naim CD player to really upgrade from an LP12 ;-)

496.6 | First upgrades were the Lingo & Cirkus | SMURF::SZCZYPEK | | Wed Oct 26 1994 17:23 | 13 |
| Thank you for your inputs. I visited my local dealer and went for the
Lingo and Cirkus upgrades. Too me they are quite a substantial
upgrade, not to mention expensive. Fortunately I was able to purchase
the Lingo demo unit which saved me some money.
Eventually I will upgrade my tonearm. What I'll do for the time being
is keep an eye on the used market for an Ittok LVIII. They're not very
common, but if I'm patient one may pop up.
I've heard that the Naim ARO works well on the Linn. Does anyone have
any experience with this arm?
