Hi, I am very interested in Sonus Faber Electa Amator speakers and I was told that they can only be driven by high powered Amps like Krell etc.. and they can't really perform in open environment ,like lounge ,living room environment. I went to a Hifi shop and listerned to the speakers driven by HOLFI INTEGRA (60 watter,I think), to me, they sound fantastic but I was told they were not driven to the fullest, maybe not even half of what they can perform. Don't have the budget for amps like Krell. Just wonder bi-amp of Musical fedility Typhoon (bi-amp) can drive that speakers. And how does bi-amp work ? (I am very new to Hifi) one amp drive one speaker ? Or any other not so expensive amps that can go well with that speakers ? Can they perform in living room environment ? Suggestions needed. Thanks in advance, Joo

494.1 | Copland will do the job! | HLDE01::KOOI_J | Tue Oct 11 1994 10:29 | 19 | |
Joo, I bought my Copland CTA401 integrated valve amp (28 Watts/channel) from someone who used it to drive the Sonus Faber Electa Amator. The Copland produced nearly the best sound I'd ever heard from my Epos ES14 (Classe and Audio Research being even better, but the Copland only costs some 1,300 Pounds Sterling or less if you buy it in the Netherlands, whereas the Classe and AR will set you back several thousands) -- at the risk of being thrown out from this notes conference: this set-up sounds better than a NAIM 72/140 combo. After having decided to take the Copland, its previous owner gave a demo of his Sonus Fabers, which now proudly sit on my shortlist in case I am ever going to swap the Epos (quite unlikely...). Copland also has a separate pre and power amp, which are said to be even better, and they recently added a valve/solid state integrated which also received some rave reviews in the press. Jelle Kooi |
