463.0. "Revox reel to reel price wanted" by KERNEL::SMITH () Thu Jan 06 1994 11:17

    	Hi,

I have a friend who wishes to sell a REVOX reel to reel tape
    	deck.

    	I believe it's a Model 36 twin head unit.

It has never been used and has been stored since new in it's
    	original packing.

Can anyone give me some idea what he can expect to get for it ?

    	Thanks ewan

463.1 Contact Revox FIRST (081-953-3533)! SUBURB::POWELLMNostalgia isn't what it used to be!Thu Jan 06 1994 12:3412

If it really is a Revox G36, it could be quite valuable, especially
since to say it is in pristine condition AND has the original packing!

I would suggest contacting Revox regarding a price before you take
any other action! This Tape recorder has an almost antique value.

Revox are on 081-953-3533 (Borehamwood) now. They used to be at
Newbury after they split with the UK importers (F.W.O.Bauch Ltd. at
Borehamwood) who went belly up shortly after.

Thanks Malcolm, I called them and they suggested 350 - 900 squid

Quite a swing I thought. Anyway thanks for the contact details.

If you know anyone who's interested let them know, 'cause it's

going up for sale I believe and I said I'd spread the word.

    	cheers

463.3 Be carefull where you advertise it! SUBURB::POWELLMNostalgia isn't what it used to be!Mon Jan 10 1994 12:1813

Just remember, when fixing the asking price - you can always come
down, but you can't go up!

As a potential, (if not actual) collectors piece, you should be
carefull where you advertise such a beastie, the local "free adds" are
very unlikely to produce any interest at the sort of price this item
    should command.

Where to advertise it? That is another question altogether! I
can't help you there at all, maybe an Audiophile magazine?

    				Malcolm.

I think he's going to advertise it locally and in one of the
    	national 'hifi' mags perhaps.

So keep yer eyes peeled ;-)

Actually he's trying to sell to help purchase a Graham or a
Triplaner tonearm and then he's going to mount it on a Garrard
    	301 turntable

Apparently the turntable has had some outstanding mods done to
it...i think this one or a similar one was featured in an article
in the hifi press some months ago.

And between you, me and this workstation i heard Pink Triangle are
developing a tonearm which should outperform the SME V...now is
that news or is that news....

Something to outperform an Ekos would be news...

A rewired RB250 would probably do that with consummate ease...

How did you make that "1/2" then? I've tried various compose key
sequences for fractions, but can't find one that does it.

    On a DECterm Compose+Space then 12 => , If onld I could get a 3/4.

Although a Studer running at 32"/sec could probably outperform my
humble LP-12 I would probably have problems getting Roger Waters to
sing into it in the first place :-(

On a DECterm, it is only Compose+Space if you haven't somehow purloined an
LK-401 with Alt keys!
