    I have asked questions similar to this regarding external DACs, but
    this query is not related....
    
    I currently use a Pioneer CLD1750 laserdisc player as a CD player with
    passable results. In the next couple of months (after recovering from
    my recent upgrade) I plan to invest in improving CD reproduction. My
    current choices lay between a separate CD player or improving the
    laserdisc source. 
     
    I have heard of a RATA upgrade to the laserdisc player resulting in
    ".....an excellent CD player..." to quote a magazine. Does anyone have
    any info on this, or where I could get some?

Yes I have the required info you require quoted from their 1993 catologue.
They have two upgrades for the 1750 one called the "upgraded reference"cost
988.80 pounds the other "upgraded exel" cost 1669.4 pounds.The company does very
up market kit's amps etc and also supply very high quality component's they are 
the agent's for KIMBER CABLE although I haven't heard the upgrade myself I would 
imagine judging by the rest of their stuff it would be very good.the address you

    Are we suggesting that the RATA modification actually makes the 1750 a
    better player than a CDI or Karik?
    
    I tried phoning the RATA number given earlier, but all I get is an
    automated message stating that the number has been changed - and I
    can't work out what to!
