Hello, Does anybody know the differece between old and new model of Quad 606 power amp? I am using 34 pre-amp and Celeston SL-6. I want to replace my 34 with 66 pre-amp. Do I need to replace my 7 years old 606 power amp? Any comments are appreciated. Norman

Norman, There is no need to panic, the main reason for the change was due to the die used for stamping out the case had worn out. I believe that changes were made to the power supply/transformer and no changes have been made on the amplifications side. Quad have gone public in saying that there is no need to send old 606's in for retrofit. Regards, _Richard BTW: Just close your eyes and spend the money on the 66 pre-amp, it is worth every penny! | |||||

as far as i know the main difference between old and new 606 is mainley cosmetic ,the 66 pre amp sounds about 10x better than the 34 on this amp,i had a demo in the shop i would of bought it if i could of afforded it. hope this helps . the brick |
