Does anyone have some general info on the placement of A & R Arcam II speakers? I had the house to myself last night and took the time to experiment with the placement of these. Originally they were about 3-3.5 metres apart about 6 inches from the rear wall and 3-4 inches from the side walls. In this position they certainly seemed to have bass presence and I daren't turn the volume on the Naim above 1/3. I then move them away from the rear and side walls - they're now 15-18 inches from the side walls and 9 inches from the rear. Now, however, they are distinctly lighter and running at 1/2 volume without too much problem. Also, the bass does occassionally sound a bit flabby still. Could this be attributed to the speaker placement or even the speakers themselves? I'm sourcing this from an LP12/ITTOK/KLYDE through a NAIM 32.5/SNAPS/110. Speaker cable is NAIM NAC A4. Any help? Dave.

Dave, My guess is they are still too close to the side walls. Try closing them up so that they are about 2-3 ft. from the sides. A bit of toe-in may be worth trying, too. Dave |
