421.0. "Arcam II's speaker placement " by KERNEL::HOGGAND () Wed May 26 1993 09:57

    Does anyone have some general info on the placement of A & R Arcam II
    speakers?

    I had the house to myself last night and took the time to
    experiment with the placement of these. Originally they were about
    3-3.5 metres apart about 6 inches from the rear wall and 3-4 inches
    from the side walls. In this position they certainly seemed to have
    bass presence and I daren't turn the volume on the Naim above 1/3.

    I then move them away from the rear and side walls - they're now
    15-18 inches from the side walls and 9 inches from the rear. Now,
    however, they are distinctly lighter and running at 1/2 volume without
    too much problem. Also, the bass does occassionally sound a bit
    flabby still. Could this be attributed to the speaker placement or even
    the speakers themselves? I'm sourcing this from an LP12/ITTOK/KLYDE
    through a NAIM 32.5/SNAPS/110. Speaker cable is NAIM NAC A4.

    Any help?

    Dave.

421.1Still too close?BAHTAT::SALLITTDave @LZO 845-2374Fri May 28 1993 10:378
    Dave,

    My guess is they are still too close to the side walls. Try closing
    them up so that they are about 2-3 ft. from the sides.

    A bit of toe-in may be worth trying, too.
