I made up a long SCART-phono lead for the same purpose, using some
pretty cheap four-conductor screened cable I found in the lab here. I
wouldn't worry about getting gold-plated phono's though, because I
doubt you'll notice much advantage in this application. I should think
that either Maplin or Tandy could sell you the plugs and wire.

| Maplin do a low capcitance cable , around 50pf/m. It's black coloured
and small enogh to fit inside a standard phono. I've used it and it's
pretty good for interconnects.

404.3 | RG58/U | HLDE01::STEENWINKEL | while (!ready) { continue }; | Mon Mar 15 1993 11:31 | 14 |
| For this kind of thing I'd use RG58/U, which is your standard HF coax
as used for oscilloscope leads, thinwire ethernet and others. Not your
purist high-end solution, but way better than most commercial grade
ready made cables. RG58/U comes in various qualities, copper or
silvered lead/shield, dense or loose braid; I found an Italian brand
the name of which escapes me at the moment to be one of the better.
Available at any halfway decent electronics shop, as are metal RCA
plugs. Plastic plugs usually aren't large enough to accomodate the 6mm
dia. RG58/U. Not all metal RCA plugs do fit either (most are OK) so
check them out.

| I,m looking to replace my pre to power amp interconnect. the existing
stuff is Van den Hull 102 II.
I cant belive the prices charged for exotic cables, so I'll undertake a
bit of DIY
RS now do a Neutrik phono at 8.97 a pair, that looks promising, and I
was wondering if anybody could reccomend any sutiable cable.
I think the problem will be I only need about 2 meters, but most stuff
seems to come on 25 meter reels, so if anybodies got any odd lenths for
sale drop us a line.

404.6 | More from Maplin | COMICS::FLANDERSD | I remember the look in your eye | Tue Mar 08 1994 13:29 | 2 |
| And Maplin also have a screened silver interconnect for 16 pounds/metre, which
has got to be worth a thought.
