Dave,
I bought my father a Technics portable CD player for Christmas.
Can't remember the model number of hand, but it was 159 from Dixons.
Build and sound quality are excelent, and it came with everything bar
the car adaptor.
In fact, it even has infra red remote control for all functions
including output level.

| Ian,
If you could find out the model, I'ld be grateful - I was considering a
Technics, (model blah, blah 700 or something).

According to a friend who was recently auditioning Technics CD's
they're discontinuing the old range (200-900 range I think, or
something like that). There could well be a new range out soon, so it
might be worth waiting a while. I've got an XLP-700 (I think that's
what it is) and I've had no real problems with that over the past two
years. Sounds OK, small size, batteries last for quite a while...

| I use the Technics X900 and like its long battery life wih external AA
batts to suppliment the internal batts.
The only better maine that I have heard of might be a top end Sony with
a 5 second buffer in it if you Dad like s listening on the move then
this might be worth the money.
