351.0. "Roksan CD player reviews here please!" by UFHIS::JMASLEN (The wheels fallen off your day yet?!) Wed Apr 01 1992 14:47

Anybody heard the Roksan CD player? Please put your impressions here.

Of particular interest is the usage of other DACS with the Transport.

Audiophile (with Hi Fi Answers) magazine gave the transport the thumbs
up as being an answer for vinyl lovers. Better performance was to be
had using a separate(optional) power supply which cost 495 pounds!

Quite a warm, full presentaion without oversweetening everything to
    'niceness' was the verdict.

    The transport costs 999 pounds
the DAC costs 495 pounds and is of Delta origin I think (reading
    between the lines)

The reasion I ask about other DACs , is that with the external power
supply ,things were meant to sound better(better focus, not so wooly)
but 1000 pounds is a fair price to pay and so other makers may offer
something in this area. The DAC comes with its own internal power
supply if you only have 495 pounds but I would love to try the Meridean
DAC to get a fair test of multi vs. 1 bit technology DACS for the same
    prices.

Please add your test comments here Gentlemen!!

I heard the Roksan Player and DAC a couple of weeks ago at the
Sound Organisation in London. It was playing through Neat Petite
speakers and Roksan monoblocks. Preamp was a 1700.00 Audio or
	Acoustic Research line only model.

It sounded great with a fast, rock track, but less inspiring with
classical music. But being fair, the demo was for a customer who
liked rock music and had chosen the pre, amp and speakers to suit
	his taste.
