336.0. "Canon speakers" by BAHTAT::HILTON (How's it going royal ugly dudes?) Fri Jan 17 1992 11:52

    Anyone heard of /seen/tried some new Canon speaker. They are dome
    shaped, and from what a remember of the advert I read on someone else's
    newspaper, direct some sound down to the base, which then spreads it
    round the room.

    Have I imagined this or are they real?

    Yes, they are real !!

    The sound is 'fired' downwards onto a cone shpe which reflects the
    sound around the room. The claims are that you get a much larger 'hot'
    spot than with standard speakers. I gather that Canon have spent stacks
    of money on getting this part right and lots of time on getting them to
    sound good.

    Most comments have been along the lines 'it's been done before and it
    didn't work then' to 'lifestyle product'.

    I don't know - I guess I _could_ live with them if I really liked the
    sound and they weren't outrageously expensive compared with more
    conventially shaped speakers.

    Dave.
336.2How much they cost?BAHTAT::HILTONHow's it going royal ugly dudes?Fri Jan 17 1992 12:441

    I think they're about 250 quid, excluding stands.
