326.0. "Transmission Lines" by WOTVAX::MEAKINS (Clive Meakins) Wed Dec 11 1991 14:29
I recently went to visit an acquaintance who has designed a pair of
front firing reflex floor standing speakers using Dynaudio drivers.
He sells these speakers (3 pairs so far), but he was also working on
a pair of Transmission Line speakers also using Dynaudio drivers.
These Transmission Lines were interesting, acoustic instruments were
wonderful, I've never heard a double bass reproduced realistically
before - simply stunning. The down side was that "processed" music,
eg Phil Collins sounded terrible, there seemed to be no bass at all,
it sounded out of phase.
Bearing in mind these speakers are still being developed (mainly the
crossover), is there a basic design fault in these speakers, or is
this a trait of Transmission Lines?
