The new Audiolab has has some good reviews. I don't know about the
Marantz.
However, I'll now repeat the "UK_AUDIO-conference-most-often-repeated-
statement".
What you should do is get a demonstration from a good dealer. It's you
who has to live with the system, and only you can decide what sort of
sound you want. Are you buying a system from scratch, or upgrading ?

Trevor,
In a perfect world all Hi-Fi dealers would stock all brands, be staffed
by people who knew at least how to place speakers properly, and who
were only too willing to demo stuff without treating you as yet another
time waster!!!
(Phew, that's better. That little tantrum was prompted by a recent visit
I made to Hi-Fi Experience on the Tottenham Court Rd.)
I suppose I just haven't come across a good dealer. However, I have
found one that parts with it's kit on a sale-or-return basis - I shall
be picking up an Audiolab tonight for a weekend workout. (From what
I've heard/read, I imagine I'll be keeping it, and I bet I'll end up
with the costly speakers I have my eye on - Tannoy 611s!)
Thanks for replying
Cheers

| Adrian,
- let me know what you think of the new Audiolab. I bought my
8000A in 1985 after it had gone through it's second upgrade - first
upgrade was DIN sockets to Phono and second was component related.
I'm still very happy with mine and judging by the amount of work that's
been done over the last few years it must be improved. I'm
currently looking to replace my CD player, and listened to the
Rotel RCD-965BX, Marantz CD52 and Pioneer 8700 - the Rotel easily sounded
nicest to my ears followed by the Pioneer. This audition was through a
Pioneer A-400 (B&B Hi-Fi). I'm going to listen to the Rotel at Radford
Hi-Fi in Windsor through an Audiolab and HB1's so I'll get a good idea of
what it'll sound like in My home system - trouble is it'll probably sound
better through the new Audiolab than mine and I might want that as well!!
