309.1The time would be nice....BAHTAT::SALLITTThu Sep 19 1991 17:4213
    It would be nice to have the time ;->

    Anyway, there isn't a lot I can add to the published reviews.

    It sort of reminds me of when I first visited the USA. You can read as
    much as you like about how wonderful it is, but when you actually
    experience it you realise that mere words don't do it justice.

    A word of warning for anyone considering a home dem, but who actually
    can't afford to buy a Kairn yet: Don't do it, you won't want to send it
    back.

    Martin Colloms reviewed the Kairn in this months HFN/RR, and didn't
    really like it at all. He also gave the new LK100 a bit of a pasting. I
    think other Kairn reviews have generally been more favourable.

yes, I recall Alvin Gold raving about it in Audiophile.
309.4Something wrong??BAHTAT::SALLITTa legend in his lunchtimeWed Apr 22 1992 14:4113
I read that review in HFN/RR. I couldn't believe it.

I thought at first that Martin Colloms' system was faulty, but his methodology
is usually so rigorous that a fault is unlikely, as is incorrect installation
and application.

All reviews have raved about the Kairn, apart from this one. Reading between
the lines of Colloms' closing comments, I don't think he expected to be so
disappointed with it. I'd be interested to know why it went so badly.

I still don't regret buying mine, anyway!

    Yes, this review must do Linn some harm. Martin Colloms is very highly
    respected and few people disagree with him. I can't believe that
    everyone else is wrong about the Kairn either, so like Dave, I feel
    something's wrong somewhere. From what I've heard the LK100 is fairly
    average, so that result isn't too surprising, but the Kairn comments
    were surprising.
