Hello, I'm looking at replacing my current amp and speakers, which I bought in 1980-1, an Aurex amp (Toshiba brand) and Diesis M20 speakers. Each costing about 80 back then. I've recently been looking through the mags and a couplr of products sound quite interesting which I will be auditioning over the next few weeks. These are the new TDL 0.5 speakers and the Kelvin Labs Integrated amp. Has anyone had experience of either of these products or TDL speakers in general? i'd also be interested for recommendations for speaker/ amp combinations in the range of 800 combined ? My primary source is CD and I listen to mainly `classical' music. Thanks in advance, Simon A

Hi Simon, Did you have any luck with the TDL 0.5 speakers. What sort of amplifier was required to drive them ? etc. etc. Iain.

Hi Iain, I'm afraid I haven't got around to auditioning the 0.5's yet. When I do I'll post my findings. The dealer I was speaking to said he thought the Kelvin amp would suit the 0.5's well. This amp is class a/b only 20W per channel. The review of the 0.5's said that it could sound bright with the wrong amp. So careful matching required. I'd be interested in hearing about thenm if you try them before I do. Simon

Thought the TDL note needed updating - A mate of mine bought some TDL Near Field Monitor II bookshelf-type speakers the other day - excellent buy for under 200 quid (Richer Sounds). They made his Akai amp sound amazing, the clarity was stunning, and the sound was huge for such a small box - I suppose this is a feature of most of TDL's range. I bought some RTL 2's at Christmas and am still well impressed with them in conjunction with the Audio Innovations Alto I have. Chris. |
