257.0. "Wharfedale Linton speakers anyone?" by LARVAE::BARKER (Do not fold, spindle or mutilate) Tue Feb 12 1991 16:31

I've just bought a pair of Wharfedale Linton 2 speakers for 30 quid.
I'm very pleased with the look and sound of them. Can anybody fill me in on the
technical specifications e.g. power handling etc.

About 15-20 years ago the Lintons and Dentons were about the most popular
reasonably priced speakers you could get (in fact you could even get
them as kits from Warfedale). As I recall they were replaced by the
    Diamonds.

I think (though I could be very wrong) that the power handling was of
    the order of 25 W/channel.

The age is right, I have a pair of Denton XP2 and a
pair of Dovedale 3. The Dentons are about 25W and I
believe there is a panel on the back with does give
the power rating. They are about a foot high and cost
about 50 pounds in 1976ish. The Dovedales are used as
coffee tables and give a great bass sound ! Perhaps
the Lintons were the size in-between ?

Yes I think they are, there about 18 inches high X 9 inches square.

Would getting some spiky speaker stands be a good idea?

Yes, I think most folk would reccomend some rigid, spikey speaker
    stands for any small(ish) speakers.

The only problem is that decent stands are going to cost more than you
    spent on the Lintons :-)

A few metres of QED 79-strand cable would probably be a useful (and
    cheap) tweak as well.

i've still got my XP2 speakers - after a period in the loft,
they've been doing a grand job in the kitchen for the last 6
	years or so.

	i think i paid about 35 in 1978.

	i thought they were 30 watts/channel?
