Well, 'phile' at the end of a word means 'to like', as opposed to 'phobe'
which means 'to fear'.
Therefore 'audiophile' means a person who likes audio, or appreciates
good quality sounds emanating from a hifi.
Whereas an 'audiophobe' would be someone who likes listening to CD's
Did I say that?

Thanks for the information, its obvious now.
As the the CD comment, I would argue that in my case,
buying a CD Player has re-kindled my interest in music
and Hifi equipment. And in my modest way, I'm building
a system that allows me to get the most from my ever
increasing library of discs.
Surely, the music is the most important part of the
equation. The system and media are just a "means to
an end.".
Now if only I could win the Acoustic Energy AE1's and
associated goodies in Audiophile this month. I could
spend my hard-earned cash on more discs.

No problem,
Now if only I'd brought my walkman into the office
today, I wouldn't notice the time going by so
slowly !
