I've replaced my CD to amp interconnect with a P1-Icon Gold, and replaced my speaker cable with Mission Cyrus Solid Core cable. Since changing, I'm getting a low humming noise when new music is playing. It sounds like the noise I used to get when I used the turntable without connecting the ground cable to the amp chasis, but I'm no longer using the turntable. I'm going to swap back to the original interconnect tonight, and see what difference it makes, then I'll try the speaker cables. Any other thinks I should check ? Thanks, Iain

Played about with the cables last night and it would appear that the new cables simply highlight a noise problem with the current amplifier. With the Cyrus I (Used with Wifes permission then taken away again) the problem didn't appear. In general, is the length of the mains leads and crossing of mains leads with interconnect and speaker cables something I should be careful of ? Iain. | |||||

Avoid runnning mains lead alongside interconnect cable. Crossing is OK, especially if at right angles. Also, never run speaker lead alongside interconnect cable. Mains lead and speaker lead interact less but it's still worth avoiding close parallel runs if possible. Mains lead length doesn't matter much. Arguably, for power amplifiers the shorter it is the better, but then you should also be paying attention to the house wiring to the socket from the consumer unit. Nick |
