| Also see note 175.0 for another opinion. I have to say that I bought
the multi-bit 206, now only available as a 206B - guess what the B
stands for.

231.3 | | HAMPS::IVES_J | I've got a bad feeling, Mr Tracey! | Wed Dec 12 1990 19:52 | 22 |
| After some deliberation I went for the KELVIN, and I'm pleased I did.
I could'nt justify the price if the DELTEC #500 when the KELVIN is only
#200 and is based on broadly the same chip set.
improvements ?
Subtle but significant, I never realised how many CD's I used to
unconciously wince on when they became too bright.
Sound generally more spacious, relaxed and generally enjoyable.
Also in the units favour is it's beatiful minute finish (it's around
the size of one three tk50's laid end to end !)
KELVIN are really small , and don't have a dealer near by so I ended up
dealing with the MD/designer at his home ! Really helpful and friendly
and generally a pleasure to deal with . Real enthusiasts.
jives verdict : thumbs up for the KELVIN PDM

| I'll dig out KELVINS phone and address for you. By do-it-yourself do
you mean import it yoursel ? I don't think they sell the DAC as a kit.

| well most reviews it has to be said prefer either the meridian or the
new DELTEC 'little bit'. The KELVIN uses the original 7320 processor in
single chip mode, like the ROTEL CD865.
I like the KELVIN and for $200 (pounds sterling) was a worthwhile
upgrade from the multi bit decoder in my Marantz. I'll still get that
address for you

231.10 | Need TAS review of Melior DAC | ZPOVC::PARRYCHUA | Singapore, a very small country | Fri May 17 1991 03:19 | 11 |
| 1991 seen to be a 1-bit DAC war, now Melior bitstream using the all new
Philip 7350 chip and Yamaha 8 x 18 bits oversampling filter and
other.... The SP review said that the Melior DAC has a common problem
in most of the 1-bit DAc and has no way to compare to Meridian 203.
According to the dealer in Sinagpore said that the TAS review in the
other way. I don't have the TAS, anyone out there has the TAS March
copied and has the review of Melior DAC, please post here.
Thanks
