I've just got my hands on a new Musical Fidelity B1 amp. The only problem is that it sounds awful! How long should I give it to run in before carting it back to the shop? At the moment the mid & treble are lacking but seem to improve after a few hours use. Stephen. PS. The B1 at the demo sounded great.

A B1 should sound acceptable immediately on switch-on and will be as good as it's going to get after a few hours. Something sounds broken. Sure it's the amp? Nick

The system sounds fine with my old AR amp. Stephen.

I can't stand the sound any longer so I'm carting the amp back of to the dealer tomorrow to compare it to another B1. The sound stage seems completely defocused even when your in the "hot spot". Stephen.

I took my B1 back to the shop and compared it to their demo model. The sound improved but still sounded a bit off (the salesman agreed) and cirtainly nothing like the B1 I had demoed two months ago. After listening to a few more amps I walked out with a slightly thinner wallet and a Musical Fidelity A1 which sounds lovely and doubles as a hotplate. Stephen. |
