| Hmm. Rotel and Dual are OK but not really mid range - more entry level.
You'll find more choice here than in the US as turntables are still
very popular.
Mid range turntables start at around 200 pounds (Rega 3) and go up to
the Linn Axis at around 450 pounds, both with arm. In between there are
several models from Linn and various others
The only Glasgow dealers that spring to mind are Stereo Stereo, and The
Music Room(MR is very high end). Yellow pages are probably your best
bet.

| Entry level turntables also start with the REGA II (One happy REGA II owner
here!).
Absolutely no idea what the price is now, got mine 5 years ago with a A&R C77
cartridge for just under �150.

| Just an observation from an ex-Planar owner...
I had a Rega Planar 2 with SME arm and V15 Mk3 several years ago.
The thing that got me about the product was how ergonomically useless
it was in terms of the perspex lid hinges, the start-up time and worst
of all, the speed change mechanism.
I don't know if anything has improved of late.

Tim,
Still the same I'm afraid, but a small inconvenience when the quality of
sound is considered. My Planar III still sounds as good three years
down the line.

| If you have cause to complain about the speed change on a Rega-II/III
have a heart for us LP-12 (no LINNGO) owners - have you ever tried to
fit a 45-RPM adapter ? Its not unknown for motors to be written off /
dammaged by pressing too hard.
Anyhow whats the problem ? The Rega is still fantastic value for money.
If you want conveniance - buy a CD - but wait don't certain players
require a adapter for CD-singles anyhow ...

| What's the problem with the hinges?
As for the speed change, I don't play too many singles.
And, after waiting 5 or so minutes for my VAXstation to boot up, and 30
or so minutes for it to find everywhere on easynet, I'm quite patient.
But then, I'm very pleased with my REGA after 5 years of service.

| Glad to hear that you're Planars are all very durable.
Yes, I have a CD player (much more convenient) and my retrograde step
was to invest in a Technics SL D2 record deck which sounds just
acceptable. Certainly seems to be more childproof...so Dave B...watch
out for your precious investment!
