| I almost forgot ...
Chris Brooks Audio (Warrington and Stockport) are having a Linn Evening
[at the Stockport/Manchester branch I think] where these goodies will
(may) be on display.
Warrington = 0925 61212/3
Stockport = 061 419 9050

| The Linn evening is at the Stockport shop, Oct. 10th.(I just called
them up.) They told me it'll be the Linngo plus "one other item", not
sure which.

| I heard about the tuner as a "possible" when visiting Linn back in
April. Nice to know it's almost here; I'm looking for a new tuner
shortly, and at last I may have a use for all those spare buttons on my
LK1 remote control :-)
I guess the LK1 PSU is a logical next-step after the Linngo and the
Spark.

211.4 | Lingo review... Anyone want a Valhalla board ? | SKIWI::EATON | Marketing - the rubber meets the sky | Mon Oct 01 1990 00:36 | 28 |
| Well I spent 4 hours listening to the Lingo at the dealers on the weekend.
I heard an LP12/Akito/K9 with and without a Lingo (Serial #8). Quite frankly
the sound with the Lingo was great. Much smoother and less "Forward" than that
without the box. Music more "Woven" together. To make matters more surprising
the LP12/Akito/K9/Lingo sounded better than an LP12/Ekos/AT-ART1 for the same
reasons. The Ekos/ART1 was certainly pulling more off the disk than the Akito/K9
but the presentation simply didn't compare. The Lingo made the music more
coherent and listenable. Almost like the difference I normally associate with
CD vs LP sound. Quite simply, I was staggered. For someone like me with an
LP12/Ittok/AT-F5, I can get a better upgrade for about half the price of an
Ekos. I ordered one immediately. I was told deliveries would be in November
as there is (not surprisingly) a waiting list.
Then they put the Lingo board into the Ekos/ART1 equipped LP12. I have never
heard Rickie Lee Jones or Joe Cocker sound as good. Simply amazing. All the
detail was there, and the presentation was superb. I went all goose-bumbly.
I also had a look inside the box. It has a nice torrodial transformer and an
awful lot of electronics. I spent a thoughtful weekend wondering what in hell
all the bits did. After all, all it's doing is supplying a synchronous motor
with power. Conclusion is that it is probably *constructing* the nice sine-wave
power for the motor from the input current i.e. after the rectification. Any
other thoughts out there ? It certainly makes the Valhalla electronics seem
pretty half-baked by comparison...
All of you with LP12 have simply got to listen to the difference this box makes
to your system....

211.5 | It's the Darik | CRATE::WATSON | Rik Watson | Wed Oct 17 1990 15:07 | 9 |
| The LK-1 PSU is to the called the Darik - not sure on spelling.
According to those that know it makes ``one hell of a difference'' -
MUCH more than Spark. The box is the same size as a LINNGO. Price -
your guess is as good as mine - my guess is < 500.00.
So Dave, another good reason not to buy those Kabers yet - who listens
to the wireless any way ?
(I wish Linn would make all their ``black'' boxes the same size)

| It was at the Chris Brooks Audio Linn open evening - but I couldn't get
there ... still people who did here it there said it was a
``significant' improvement.

211.8 | Darik / Kremlin | CHEST::WATSON | As simple as possible, not simpler | Tue Mar 05 1991 16:04 | 12 |
| The PSU is called the Darik costs 350 if you trade in the old
transformer, 400 otherwise. The Darik is named after a Scottish (?)
Physict Mr Darik - what a surprise.
The tuner is the Kremlin so called because Radio Moscow was the
strongest signal when they powered up the prototype - well you did ask.
Pricing about twice that of the LK1 - what ever that costs these days..
Comes in a box the width of the LK-2. FM only.
I've not heard either but if anyone is seriously considering buying a
Darik give me a bell / send me mail first ... can't say why. But the
Darik is very good by all accounts.

Wow, must be some tuner that can pick up Radio Moscow on FM!! Assuming that
they were testing it in the UK.
