| Creek are now owned (I'm not sure if wholly or partly) by
Mordant-Short, who are in turn part of Tannoy-Goodmans International.
You can bet your life that the latest 4040 bears only passing
resemblance to yours, and the chances of you bringing it up to anything
like latest spec are pretty slim. Any mods Creek did bring out are
unlikely to be DIY anyway.
If there's nothing about the sound of your current setup that makes you
desperate to change, save the money and spend it on records/CDs. If
there is some aspect of the sound you want to change, then that's a
whole different can of worms! A better amp (and significantly better
than even an old Creek 4040) is unlikely to be had for under 500, and
even then it may not do what you're looking for it to do.
