188.0. "Anyone for ION !" by RDGE44::HAYWARD (Smokie of Baskingstoke) Wed Jul 11 1990 18:35

Well after a long absence, and a house move that took all my money away.
I have begun to audition replacement systems for my even more decrepit
receiver.

To cut a long story short, the selection has narrowed down to :-

	 Naim Nap72 pre-amp & Nap90 power amp.
Or A pre power combo from ION.

On the ears test, I prefer the ION system.

However, apart from the price of the ION being a little higher, I don't know
anything about the quality/consistency/reliability/upgrade-ability of ION
systems. Has anybody any experience ?

Thanks

Iain

Hope I'm not to late ... I only arrived here yesterday.

ION Systems were previously Nytech and as such had a very good
reliability record. As for upgradability, the ION Nexus system is
unbeatable you can go from a Pre + stereo power amp right the way upto
    a Pre + Separate PSU + 3 * 2 * Monoblock amps to drive that PMS
Isobaric system you were always promissing your self.

Basically the stereo amp can be converted to mono and the remaining
``ampilfier module'' can be added to another power supply - simple.
Alos active conversion is easy as the cards plug into the power amps
themselves - no need for a NAXO or AKTIVE system.

ION are also rummered (Well I've seen it) to be producing a `half size'
mono block amp - this sound better that the current amp and will
probably cost less. Only problem is that you can't convert you stereo
    into one.
