I am planning to make mine own electrostatic headphone. ( just for the fun of it) One of the main problems is to create a high resistive layer on the diaphragm. In a old "Wireless World" article there talking about using "Aquadag". Does anybody knows what that is and where I can get it and if not does anybody has any other idea what I can use for it ? If I'm not mistaken, Aquadag is, or was, a carbon-impregnated silica-
gel substance produced by the Cabot Company in Boston, Massachusetts.
These components were suspended in a thick matrix that could be
"painted" onto whatever surface needed the treatment.
Once dried, I believe it provided the resistive surface you need. I'm
recalling an experience of 10 or more years ago in regard to this
material, so I could be totally wrong.
Would you like me to call the Cabot Company for you to check on this?
