...and following on from the previous note, should I decide to get an Ekos, who should I buy it from? Up until now I have been using Radford Hi-Fi in Windsor, but I am hearing some very good reports about Newbury Audio. So what does the panel think of this dealer? Tarik

I have always found Reading Hi-Fi very helpful and useful. They are Linn Dealers. Even If you are not buying, they still take time to help you. I can recomend them. Juju xxxx

I've visited Newbury Audio (just casually browsing), and they seemed really helpful. As they have just started out, they may be better than some of the more established dealers. I don't think you can go far wrong with either Reading HiFi or Newbury. Mark.

I bought my kit from Newbury Audio and have been very impressed with the after sales service. I have received from them product update information for my Roksan as well as servicing reminders and an interesting newsletter listing particularly good recordings. His (Phil's) listening room is excellent and very "living room" like with a comfy leather couch to sprawl on. When I did my listening I felt no pressure and did a direct comparison between Linn and Roksan and several sets of speakers - in fact he seemed to be having as much fun as I was. I booked a weekday afternoon and he closed the shop for me so I would advise ringing first ( although his staff situation may well have improved since then). PS. Even his coffee is good.

A received a letter from Phil Thompson, or Newbury Audio saying that he has ceased trainding at Weavers Walk. apparently this was due to substantiallt increased costs. Phil is selling of his old demo equipment including quite a lot of stuff from Linn products, Arcam, Ruark, Epos, Royd, Nak etc. He can be contaced on 0628 782040 anytime. Phil is the second quality Hi-Fi dealer to close down in this area in the last 12 months, F'brought Hi-Fi being the first. Sad, Rik Ps I have no cconection with Phil except that we both liked music. months

The notice he left in the window is characteristic. It says something like Thank you to his customers, no thank you s to "time=wasters", and he leaves people to "the tender mercies of B&B Hi-Fi. Good luck -- you'll need it." Mike |
