My Sony CD player has a sticky drawer. More often than not, when I try to eject the drawer it whirrs away but fails to open the drawer without 'encouragement' (a tap on the drawer or the top). First, is this a common problem with Sony CD players (I think the model number's CDP-105; it's about 3-4 years old anyway). Secondly, is there anything that I can do to help it? I took the top off to see if there was anything like lumps of dirt clogging things up, but I couldn't see anything obvious. Other than that, the player is working fine - I've had no problems whatsoever. If this is a fairly common problem, maybe someone knows if there's something I can do about it myself? It was fine when the drawer only stuck a few times, but now it's getting to be a bit of a pain... I can't easily take it to a dealer to be fixed, as I'm in the USA and I doubt a dealer would want to fix a system that runs on 240 volts (mine runs on juice from an external 100-to-230v step-up transformer, as does my cassette deck and amp). Well yours doesn't sound quite like what happened to me, but when i bought a new AIWA cd after a couple of weeks the draw started to stick. When the engineer came round, he took off the top (being brand new i didn't want to invalidate my warrenty) and took off the 'class 1 laser product' sticker. This rectified the problem, and he went on to add that most makers stick 'these bl**dy stupid stickers all over the bl**dy place' and 'wastes my bl**dy time' ... need i go on, but it seems they alot of people must get the same problem! Oh buy the way, he was a UK professional. ;-) | |||||

I had a philips CD104 (a real Dreadnought). I found that the drawer could be made to run more smoothly by using that good old lubricant, graphite ! I rubbed a pencil on the underside teeth of the drawer and it seemed to work. |
