I am currently building up a HI-FI system from scratch.I picked up a pioneer system with AIWA speakers for 30 pound from a car boot sale with the intention of replacing it one component at a time with good quality equipment that will last. My first purchase was a Linn Axis with BASIK arm. This Saturday I intend getting the AMPLIFIER.However unlike turntables there seems to be a much greater variety of amplifiers with much less agreement on which model is a good buy. I have arranged an audition at reading HI-FI This Saturday 10th and their suggested listening is... creek 4140 220 pounds aura 189 pounds And due to some rave reviews in WHAT HI-FI I have also asked to hear the musical fidelity b1 199 pounds I would be very grateful for any comments on the above models and also any additional recommendations that I could try and get to hear at the same time, before Saturday if possible please. I could afford to go above 220 pounds,but I would need good justification sound quality/reliability wise. Some time in the future (depending how much the amp costs!) I will also need to purchase the speakers and find this area even more confusing than choosing an amplifier. Reading HI-FI suggested using a Royd A7 (115 pounds) when I audition the amplifier,but I might as well make best use of the occasion and listen to a variety of speakers at the same time.All recommendations/advice gratefully received. If I take the plunge on Saturday I'll update this note with the results. Thanks in anticipation Steve

Well incase anybody's interested I am now the happy owner
of a creek amp and royd A7 speakers.
If anybody knows of a better speaker/amp combination in the
same price range then please DON'T TELL ME!!!!
I just do not want to know.

Steve, I am sure you are very happy with your purchases. I expect you spent a lot of time listening to various makes and models. You then let your ears make the final choice.
