144.0. ""Exposure IIIV Amplifier" by MSAM00::EESOONKIONG () Tue Jan 30 1990 10:45

    Hi there,

I am new into the Hi-Fi world, and need some info from you folks.

I recently purchased an Exposure IIIV power amp and a Luxman CL-32
tube pre-amp (not 32 tubes, but only 7), and a pair of Monitor
Accoustics speakers (the box says made in England, but distributed from
Australia). Only the spkrs are new and the rest 2nd hand. Appreciate if
you can shed some light on following,

    1. How long has the Exposure IIIV been in the market ? How much was it
sold originally in UK ? Same is asked of the CL-32.

    2. Is the Luxman preamp a good partner with the power amp ? Has anyone
    known of better alternatives ?

    3. How was the performance of the preamp ? Again, any better power amp
    alternatives ?

    4. I am considering buying a Marantz CD-50 CD player to go with the
system. I read good words about this pc in magazines. Any comment about
    the setup ?

I have tried posting these question in the US Audio notes but being UK
products, not much responses were received.

Your info will be much appreciated,

    Thnx & rgds,

Re your second point, while I've never heard the Luxman pre-amp you mention, I
have heard Exposure equipment (though which models I can't remember).
Personally I wouldn't consider running an Exposure power amp with anything but
an Exposure pre-amp. I've heard these power amps sound truly dreadful when
driven by fine (transistor) pre-amps from other manufacturers. That's not to
say Exposure make bad kit, I've heard all-Exposure systems sounding very
pleasant, but mixing the kit didn't work for me. Perhaps someone who knows
more about them could explain why this might be.

Sorry about the mistake, it should be Exposure VIII power amp.

As far as I can see the VIII is still on sale for 470.00 and was
reviewed in what hi-fi in June 89.
