133.0. "CD to replace my Revolver?" by SUBURB::COLEJ (AHHHHGGHHH-STACK DUMPED AGAIN!!!) Thu Nov 23 1989 15:39

Can anyone tell me where/wether it is possible to borrow a CD player
or even rent one from anywhere local to Reading.

I ask as I want to investigate the possibility of buying a CD player
but want to know wether it would make a big difference for better
    or worse to my system.

    I have a Revolver w Linn basik + K9
             Rotel ra820 a
             Wharfedale Ritz Diamonds.

I have in the past preferred the musical aspect to sound, but am
open minded about the quality of CD as a main source. Really I want
to compare what I have already got with what I could have.

I'm not in your area, but any good audio shop will be willing(or
should be ) to give you one on demo for a few weeks free.

Hi there,

If you are not entirely sure about CD why not change you revolver/basik (trade
it in) against a linn axis with the new akitto (I think thats spelt right) arm.
I have listened to an axis with basik and it sounds great (I plan to get one next
year) and I guess it would cost about 350 pounds seeing as you already possess
a K9 plus you might get a reasonable trade in against the revolver.

In my opinion (and its only an opinion) it knocks spots of of any CD player I
have heard.

Cheers

Larry Wiltshire

PS I didn't believe all the hype about linn that you read in the press until I
sat down and listened to one.

Another thought, You could actually keep the basik+K9 and just have it fitted
into the linn platter. That should cut the cost down a lot.

Well, the problem is that my dilemma is not wether I would prefer
a quality analogue front end to a digital one, but wether I ought
yet be considering now a gradual change to "the Digital alternative
    for the 21'st centuary."

I do believe that analogue is basically better still and agree with
the views expressed about the Axis, but was really considering a
CD player to prepare for the eventual phase out of the superior
    analogue front end......

    Re. 5.

I am now the proud owner of a Linn Axis + Akito S/h for #200.
I wouldn't mind, but the person I bought it from let me listen to
a Sondek and I already want an upgrade.....
