119.0. "Bi-Amp KEF 104.2" by LATINA::RUPEREZ (Fails, but by another reason...) Fri Sep 01 1989 11:45
Some questions for the audio gurus,
I've got a pair of KEF 104.2, and my dealer told me that they could
be bi-amplified, by changing something in the inner crossover, and
bringing out of the box a new pair of connectors. As everybody knows
the 104's have a 3 liters cabinet attached to the big box containing
middle/treble units, being the woofers inside the tower.
Has anybody experience on these changes?. Are they recommendable,
or should I forget them. Are they dangerous ?,(to be done by the KEF
representative, of course!).
I've been at a high end Hi-Fi show, here at Madrid, and listened
some class-A amps (Jadis 60), driving a pair of EBSs from ProAc,
and it was amazing!!!. Jadis are 2 or 3 layers over my affordable
amps, (own a 8190 from Onkyo which works pretty well with my KEFs),
but I'm thinking of connecting a cheap class-A (recommendations?)
to the pre-amp outlet of the Onkyo to drive middle/treble part of
the band where class-A works really fine, leaving the Onkyo on sub
300Hz. This allows me also to take the advantage of the great
versatility of the Onkyo as a pre-amp (CD,LP(MM+MC),T1,T2,Video,Tuner).
Thanks for your opinions...
Jose
