I picked up a pair of warfdale speakers and a warfdale t/table at the weekend The t/table is a 'Linton' and the speakers are two way, about 18inch high with the number '504' stencilled on the back of them. Does anybody have any info on these? BTW The speakers are v.good, a a/b'd them with my diamonds and they stand up very well - in fact better in the base department (which I did expect). I Now have them in parrallel with my diamonds to give that extra 'flood' of sound. I havn't tried the t/table yet - it needs some new connections.

I had a pair of Wharfedale 504 speakers for about 18 months. They were excellent. They are basically a kind of diamond , but with the wharfedalemetal dome tweeter giving a smooth top-end. If these are the ones I had they are unusual in that the tweeter is underneath the bass/midrange unit. This is correct so perhaps you have them upsidedown. I found the gave best results on high stands , close to a back wall (approx 6 inches). If I remember correctly , in the handbook they were even referred to as a Diamon IV but I think this was only for continental markets. I had to go to LS3/5a's to find a significantly better bookshelf size monitor. I don't know if you have read 114 regarding sub-woofers but in Wilmslow Audio's brochure , they specifically comment that the 504 will work with one of there models. I think you'vve got yourself a bargain. | |||||

re -1 Hmmm the logo on the cloth grill would be upside down if this is true. I suppose someone could have put the grills on the wrong way around... Ill check the orientation of the label on the back; but i think that the label suggests that they should be in the conventional manner ie tweeter on top. It is possible that these speakers are a very early model I suppose. Note that the have no reflex port and have the spade connections as well as screew conections. Cost was 10. The reason they were being sold was; 'My husband is buying a CD and replacing everything" Ha! These speakers sound v.good with my cd.... |
