35.0. "Audio reviews of AV gear" by LESLIE::LESLIE (Millions of Lemmings can't be wrong) Tue Aug 30 1988 18:21
Having recently acquired a Panasonic D80 Stereo Hi-Fi VCR and Panasonic
TXC71 Stereo TV, I thought I'd drop in a review of the audio
capabilities available from these.
The D80 can tape ordinary TV output, simultaneously record from a
seperate tuner and a tv signal, overdub audio only at a later date or
digitally record/play audio recordings - currently I don't have a
digital-digital connection between my CD and VCR, but one day soon.....
Sound quality is excellent, I got the Peter Gabriel "Cv" video and
am now listening to the music on my Walkperson, having taped directly
onto my audio cassette deck. No hiss. At all.
The TV sound is excellent - although it shows up the poor quality of
some TV sound transmission upon occasion. The connections between TV
and VCR are both the ordinary prong connectors and a new one to me, the
SCART connector. This is a 14-pin D connector and is used by means of a
special "AV" switch.
The TV has onscreen setting for volume, treble and bass, with a
loudness control and 4 speaker enclosures, two at the front, with two
more at the sides, selectable. Sound quality is very good with all
speakers firing. I haven't looked yet but I believe it pumps out around
15 watts per channel. However I usually mute that out and use my AIWA
amp and speakers to improve quality when playing really good stuff,
like the aforementions Peter Gabriel Cv video.

| I originally replied to 35.0 under its old name, and 35.2 was Andy's
response.
On reflection I decided this contravened the guideline whereby review
topics should contain just reviews (not a good example for a
moderator!), so this topic was renamed to make it general enough
to allow reviews of other AV gear. 35.1 and 35.2 will entered as
another topic.
Sorry for the confusion....
